Sexteto Bacatá was created in the year 2013 as a result of the instrumental group practice within the training programme in Colombian music of the Academy Luis A. Calvo, outreach program of the ASAB School of Arts of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas. The group is formed by outstanding students of instruments such as the bandola, the tiple and the guitar who come together for interpreting traditional music of the Colombian Andean region.

Sexteto Bacatá’s instrumental conformation is similar to the “estudiantina” format, although it differs by including the electric bass, whose function is to provide rhythmic support along with the guitar and the Peruvian Cajon.

Directed by Paulo Andrés Triviño, the Sextet has participated in different events and festivals inside and outside of Bogota, as the tribute to master Luis A. Calvo in the municipality of Agua de Dios, the Santo Tomás University encounter of estudiantinas, the release of the Luis A. Calvo Academy’s album "Huella y Caminos" at the Teresa Cuervo Borda auditorium, among other institutional events of the Francisco José de Caldas District University of Bogota. They also won the Anselmo Durán Plazas national contest of interpretation, category instrumental groups in 2014. That same year, they earned the first place in the call Colombia al Parque.
